Recently I read some facts about MainFrame. For those who think that Mainframes is a field very few opportunities, Read on u will be surprised…
1. The mainframes hold approximately 70 % of the entire data stored in this planet
2. The latest ones can support over 25,000 users
3. They can support devices spread over 26 miles using fibre optics 4. The size of the basic OS is about 14 GB
5. This OS comes in about 57 magnetic tapes, But latest with 4 tapes
6. It takes ATLEAST a month to install and customize a basic mainframe OS configuration
7. It takes around 3 full days for a mainframe to get up and running
8. Basic configuration for development environment costs 8 crores (hardware + Software)
9. A full team of qualified system operators are always required to be on stand by to ensure successful operation
10. Earlier mainframes were provided with cooling pipes through which cold water was passed to cool the system - TCS have one in Chennai facility
11. Recent mainframes have variable speed fans in the cabinet to keep it cool
12. Have u ever heard of a mainframe system being hacked??? Mainframes are one of the most secure data installations ever
13. You cannot buy the mainframe OS, but u’ll have to pay a license to use it. The cost?? cool ..1.5 crores a year.
14. Finally, mainframes today r the most preferred data servers for even the most hi-fi of the organizations!

The most amazing fact is thatMost of the people working on Mainframe had never seen the mainframe.Am not kidding, it is a fact.

THE LAGOON VS THE OCEAN

One might have heared about the Great Barrier Reef, stretching some 1,800 miles from New Guinea to Australia. Tour guides regularly take visitors to view the reef. On one tour, a traveler asked the guide an interesting question."I noticed that the lagoon side of the reef looks pale and lifeless, while the ocean side is vibrant and colorful," the traveler observed. "Why is this?" The guide gave an interesting answer:"The coral around the lagoon side is in still water with no challenge for its survival. It dies early. The coral on the ocean side is constantly being tested by wind, waves, and storms -- surges of power. It has to fight for survival every day of its life.As it is challenged and tested, it changes and adapts. It grows healthy. It grows strong. And it reproduces." Then he added this telling note: "That's the way it is with every living organism."!!

REFLECTION

That's how it is with people. Challenged and tested, we come alive! Like coral pounded by the sea, we grow. Physical demands can cause us to grow stronger. Mental and emotional stress can produce tough-mindedness and resiliency. Spiritual testing can produce strength of character and faithfulness . So, when you are tested again and again with problems - physical, mental, emotional or spiritual, just tell yourself, "There I grow again!".
Remember, A smooth sea never made a skilled mariner!!

“The proliferation of broadband has meant for the first time in history we’ve entered a culture of ‘instant answers,’” said psychologist Dr David Lewis, who identified discomgoogolation by measuring heart rates and brainwave activity.
The term comes from “discombobulate”, which means to confuse or frustrate, and Google.
“A galaxy of information is just a mouse click away and we have become addicted to the web,” added Lewis. “When unable to get online, discomgoogolation takes over.
The stress of being disconnected was equivalent to that of running half an hour late for a key meeting, being about to sit an important exam or, in the worst cases, being sacked.
